Presidents Corner

I look forward to a very fun and productive year at the Cycle Club and I look forward to serving my term as Club President. I want to thank the past club officers and club members for all that they have done over the years. It is from all of their input and output that the club has been able to survive and grow into the wonderful recreational site that it is today. Our goal needs to be to stay focused on being good stewards of our club and our property.

We have eight events this year where we will need help from most of our active members; three motos, three hill climbs, one trail ride and one snowmobile hill climb. I am confident that with a new work party program, being introduced in March, we will be able to handle these events with minimal time put in from each active member.

I would like to draw attention to our website. I first want to thank those of you that have contributed to the building of the website over the past several years. This year we are going to take it up a notch and eventually we would like to make it the primary point of contact with our membership. Tom Deike is taking the lead on this initiative and has already made some positive changes.

Please get familiar with the web site and pass on your productive comments. www.katocycleclub.com

I look forward to seeing you at upcoming meetings and events.

Best regards

Marty Cassem

1st EVENT OF 2005 – SNOW DRAGS – JANUARY 29th

The gate will open for this event at 7:30am.  The start time for competition is 12:00pm.  We are doing concessions work, so we need a good supply of club members to help during the day. You can call any officer to sign up, or sign up at a meeting. There is an explanation of job descriptions on the web page.  http://www.katocycleclub.com.

THINGS WORTH NOTING

1. There is a new electrical service that was installed this past year by club members.  This will help to centralize the service and make any new electrical runs easier. Committee Chair – Steve Scheid

2. There has also been much creek bed and bridge work done this past year.  A lot of the areas around the bridges had washed away and were unstable.  Club members completed this project during the fall.  Committee:  RD, Tim & Jeff Slipy.

3.  In late fall, the road up to the flat track was graded and an area was made for the younger riders to play.  An oval track and good access road can make this area a safer place to ride and play for the kids.  I don’t think it will stop them from driving up and down the road, but it’s worth a try.  Paul Sekora, Club Sponsor, Crystal Construction, contractor.

4.  The 4wheeler club has contacted SMC and convinced the DNR to let them open up the cedar grove area for a contained, DNR, riding area for off road vehicles.  There would be barriers in place to prevent unauthorized access to that area, as well as barriers to prevent the unauthorized use of the Kato Cycle Club.

5.  We have begun to purchase dram shop insurance for the sale of 3.2 beer at the club.

6.  Some discussions were had about changing the entrance road into the club, or re-arranging the traffic flow.  There have been discussions about putting the Hill climb score shack on top and behind the concession stand.  Committee Chair:  Gary Dawley

7.  The points system will be discussed at meetings through the end of March.  Please attend a meeting to help decide what course of action to take.

Work Parties Are Always One Week Before The Event

There are ½ day schedules for  workers, so you don’t have to commit an entire day to help, if you don’t want to.  Life members are welcome.

We barely had enough workers to handle the events that we put on last year.  Thanks to several dedicated members, we were able to make our club events, convenient and safe for the racers.  Thanks to them, and the racers, we are still putting on Motorcycle events!

We are starting out the year with new officers and new events.  Please keep in contact with the club.  We need to fit everyone into the work schedules so we don’t run short of help.  A new system is in the works and should alleviate some of the apprehension that the current points system has created.  We will be discussing this at future meetings and should have it together by our 2nd event in April.

We have a sanctioned, Trail Ride event for the 2005 season.  There are details on the web page, or come to a meeting to discuss the event.  We have designated our Head Referee as the “TRAIL BOSS” for the day.

A club member, Lenny Damrow, suffered a stroke in October and is at St. Mary’s in Rochester, where he is receiving therapy.  On Wed. Jan. 18th, he is supposed to be released to the Mankato House, 700 James Ave. Mankato.

Steve Young, our alternate Rep and his wife, had a baby recently.

Of course, all of this information can be obtained, as it happens, on the web site which is at http://www.katocycleclub.com.  The members only area is accessible with a username and password. (username:  kcc  password:  katocc02 (that’s zero-two on the end)).  Any one who needs help, call Tom at 507-469-0510.   The latest news and meeting minutes are posted there as well as schedules & events.
